Strike against Chamalapura project intensified

Mysore, July 11 (UNI) The fight against the proposed Chamalapura Thermal Power project was further intensified today, when hundreds of the villagers organised a rasta roko on Gaddige road between Kayanthalli and Halanahalli on the outskirts of the city.

The villagers were protesting by squatting on the road since morning, keeping huge stones on both sides blocking vehicles.

Later, they were joined by former Minister M Shivanna and Convenor of Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) Lakshamana. They demanded that the government should drop the project immediately.

Earlier, ACICM which was spearheading agitation against the project met wife of Culture Minister H S Madeva Prasad and wife of speaker Krishna in the city and submitted a memorandum.
