Chennai, July 11 (UNI) Sathyabama University, a premier self financing Engineering college, is to develop a satellite in tie-up with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

ISRO Chairman Madhavan Nair, who delivered the 16th convocation address of the University here this evening, readily agreed to a proposal made by its Chancellor Jeppiaar at the function.

''There is no reason to reject the request,'' Mr Nair said responding to Mr Jeppiaar's request that ISRO should give licence to the University to develop a satellite on the lines of Edusat, being developed by Anna University in tie-up with ISRO.

Mr Nair said ''You start the work...we will put the satellite up in the air as early as possible.'' ISRO had recently launched an Argentanian University's Nano satellite in the PSLV launch vehicle recently and Sathyabama University could also join the elite club, he added.

Mr Jeppiaar informed that the satellite could be named as ''Sathyabama Satellite'' and it was enough if ISRO gave the permission. ''We do not want any financial assistance from ISRO, but only the licence to make the satellite,'' he said adding the University had the potential to develop the satellite.
