Provide better services to citizens: CM

Hyderabad, July 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the officials concerned to ensure better services to the citizens of Greater Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Municipal Corporations, as per targets fixed under JNNURM programme.

Reviewing the activities of Greater Vizag and Vijayawada Municipal Corporations with higher officials here, Dr Reddy directed that 100 per cent coverage should be made in sewerage treatment, solid waste management and underground drainage. He said both places should be made cent per cent 'open defecation-free cities' by December 2008.

Directing the officials to provide round the clock water through meter system only, he asked them to educate the citizens that meters were provided for water quality improvement and better management of drinking water.

Dr Reddy stressed the need to take up revenue improvement initiatives like collection of property taxes and water charges in a more scientific way, an official release said here.
