Population Stabilisation to facilitate better living conditions: C

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said population stabilisation would facilitate better living conditions in the country.

Addressing a sensitisation programme for youth and adolescents, organised at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat, jointly by National Population Stabilisation Fund, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, NSS, NLM and WHO on the occasion of World Population Day, Ms Dikshit called upon youth to enhance their understanding on population and gender issues.

She underlined the importance of stabilisation of population as natural resources were not going to suffice forever for the rapidly increasing population.

The objective of the programme includes familiarising adolescents and youth about issues related to size and growth of Indian population in general and growth of population in their own states of district in particular it seeks to make them aware of myths and misconception of problems of growing of as adolescents and preparing them to face the challenges of approaching adulthood and enhance undestanding of young people to take responsible decisions regarding population issues, age of marriage, health of the mother which has direct impact on the health of the child and the robustness of future generation.

The conference was attended by more than 500 youth of 16-20 age group from under developed villages of Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
