Orissa's contribution to global warming negligible: Minister

Bhubaneswar, July 11 (UNI) Orissa's contribution to global warming was negligible because of low level of fossil fuel, Science and Technology Minister Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo said in the Assembly today.

Replying to a question of BJD member Pratap Jena, Mr Sahoo said the state government was phasing out old commercial public transport vehicles to contain global warming.

Fuel conforming to anti-pollution and emission standard were being taken up gradually, Mr Sahoo said, adding that renewable energy like wind, solar, hydro and biomass along with afforestation activities were being taken up while use of CFL was being contemplated in government and public undertaking buildings to increase the energy efficiency.

The minister said steps were being taken to create public awareness through NGOs about the menace of this global issue and to plant more trees.
