MZP urges govt to solve border dispute immediately

Aizawl, Jul 11 (UNI) A day after the Mizoram Home Minister called for an all party meeting in the Assembly to discuss the Assam-Mizoram border dispute, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl, largest student's body, today called for another on the same.

The joint meeting worked out on a seven-point resolution stating that Mizoram had no boundary with Asom except the Inner Line Regulation.

It also demanded that the state government should take immediate action to hand over the Inner Line Forest Reserve area to the state forest department.

The resolution said the meeting gave solid support to the recent MZP's action in claiming the 'true Mizoram territory' and agreed that such meetings should be held regularly.

The student's body also urged Chief Minister Zoramthanga to talk to his Assam counterpart to bringing an end to the encroachment issues as early as possible.

The meeting also appreciated the 'true Mizoram map', given by the MZP, and said the map be widely circulated once it is completed.

The resolution also urged the state government to provide necessary security to the people along the Asom-Mizoram border in view of the recent incident in which the Asom police arrested a few labourers working at the paddy field of first Mizoram Chief Minister Chhunga, which situated within the disputed area.

It also urged the Mizoram government to expeditiously submit the memorandum to the Centre for formation of boundary commission for the two states.

Home minister Tawnluia had called for a meeting at his office on the alleged Asom-Mizoram border dispute here yesterday and passed a resolution to have the final drafts for the memorandum by July end.
