Monsoon rains eludes most parts in region

Chandigarh, Jul 11 (UNI) Hot and humid conditions prevailed in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Union Territory as monsoon rains eluded most parts of the north-west region today.

Except few areas in the plains, the twin states of Punjab and Haryana had no rains since last night. However, clouds hovered at many places but the maximum temperature stayed above normal at these places.

Heavy rain pounded Nangal Dam site, turning it the wettest place in Punjab, recording 105.0 mm rain overnight. Amritsar measured 3.6 mm downpour.

There was no rainfall in Haryana where the temperatures stayed above normal at most places in the absence of downpour.

Humid conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana as rains eluded the city today.

However, several areas in Himachal Pradesh experienced showers with Kasol turning the wettest place in the state, recording 68.5 mm rainfall till this morning. Sujanpur Tira, Sundernagar, Pandoh, Barthin, Suni and Rampur areas also received rain.

Moderate rain lashed Shimla and its surrounding areas. The capital town recorded 9.7 mm rain till 0830 hours.

The Met Office said moderate to rather heavy rains or thundershowers will occur at few places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
