Militants held with huge cache of explosives

Guwahati, Jul 11 (UNI) Two militants were held with a huge cache of explosives by a joint team of police and Army at Rangiya in lower Asom this evening.

City SSP Surinder Kumar said the duo were travelling along the Meghalaya border towards Guwahati in a Tata sumo when they were nabbed.

One of them was identified as Shyamal Sarma, who is the general secretary of the Darrang district unit of Manav Adhikar Sangram Samity (MASS).

The other is a Mangaldai-based contractor, Bipul Deka.

Eight grenades, five kg of explosives and five switches were seized from the them.

The accused were brought to the Jalukbari police station for interrogation.

Police suspect the duo could be working overground for the outlawed ULFA.
