Mettur dam will be opened for irrigation on July 25 : CM

Chennai, July 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced that the Mettur Dam would be opened for irrigation on July 25.

In a statement here, he said the present storage level in the dam stood at 54 tmc ft (91 ft). The Dam had been receiving an inflow of 30,000 cusecs per second and the storage level was expected to rise further.

Considering this and accepting the requests from the farmers, the government had decided to open the dam for irrigation on July 25, Mr Karunanidhi said.

It may be recalled that the dam could not be opened on the customary date of June 12 for cultivation of Kuruvai crops due to poor storage level.
