MBBS degree for Indian students from Philippines universities

Chennai, July 11 (UNI) The Singapore-based Health Care Management International (HCMI), the official representative of the Philippines government's Commission of Higher Education (CHED), today opened its Chennai centre to offer MBBS courses for Indian students in seven select universities in Philippines.

Talking to reporters here, HCMI Managing Director Baljit Singh and Deepak Shishoo said HCMI would be arranging MBBS degrees to Indian students from seven universities accredited under the CHED, Philippines.

There would be an intake of 100 students in the seven Philipine universities and the fee package varied from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 15 lakh for the full duration of four-and-a-half years. The course would start in September this year.

After the course, the students had to undergo one year internship in Philipines, after which they would be allowed to work in India.

This was for the first time that Phillippines government had opened MBBS courses for Indian students.

The MBBS course was categorised under three phases - pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical phase. The students in the final semester were specially prepared for the Medical Council of India screening test and also in United States Medical Licensing Examination.

The seven varsities included University of Northern Philippines, Davao Medical School Foundation, Cagayan State University, Our Lady of Fatima University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, University of the East Ramon Magsaysay and Tarlac state University.
