Legislative Council adjourned for the day amidst dharna
Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislative Council was adjourned today amidst dharna by three members in protest against the Government's reply over Common Entrance Test(CET) to post- graduate courses in the state.
Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy, replying to a discussion by Janata Dal (Secular) member K T Srikantegowda and others, said the system introduced during this year would continue on an experimental basis for this year and assured that it would not do any injustice to students from rural areas. The student community had welcomed the move, he added.
Not satisfied with the reply, Mr Srikantegowda and two Independent members Marithibbegowda and Y A Narayanaswamy entered into the well of the House protesting against the Government's decision.
Earlier, Opposition leader H K Patil alleged that the Government's move was nothing, but interfering in the administration of a University. If PGCET was implemented it would affect the students belonging to poor and backward section, he added.
