Joginder Singh advocates freedom of press
Chandigarh, July 11 (UNI) Former CBI chief Joginder Singh today strongly advocated the freedom of press and exhorted the media to boldly expose the truth, but with responsibility.
Speaking on the occasion of launching of Green Apple Foundation (GAF) School of Journalism and New Media here, Mr Singh said to put curbs on the freedom of press meant throttling the voice of the people. In the countries where freedom of press was curbed, the governments collapsed, he added.
''No political party should think now that it can muzzle the media. The freedom of press was an essential component of a healthy democracy,'' he said.
Regarding sting operations, he said to legalise them the government should bring a bill in Parliament. To expose corruption in the society, the sting operations play an important role, he added.
Mr Singh said there was a law regarding sting operations in the US and it was high time India had such a legislation.
