Kochi, July 11 (UNI) Stressing that the employees in the IT and BPO industry were 'taken care of properly,' National Association of Software and Services Companies (NAASCOM) Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan said the industry was not averse to trade unions entering the IT sector.

Speaking to reporters here today, Mr Narayanan said, ''every individual has his own right and the industry is not against any union activity in the IT sector.'' However, he reiterated the IT and BPO employees were taken care of properly in terms of compensation, benefits and career growth opportunities.

Compared to other industries in India, the employees of the IT industry enjoyed all the benefits and the employers had a cordial relationship with the employees, Mr Narayanan added.

To a query on rupee appreciation affecting the IT industry, Mr Narayanan, who is also the vice-chairman of IT service provider Cognizant, said the government should take steps to curb rupee appreciation which was adversely affecting the sector.

He said China and certain Latin-American countries had policies to protect the domestic industry against currency fluctuations.

'' If the rupee appreciated unabated, the IT sector will incur huge losses as the cost advantage will be minimal,'' he noted.
