Mumbai, July 11 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today sought clarification from the state government as to why the special adhesive stamps lying with Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nashik district treasuries, since June 2002, were not being opened for sale.

Acting on a Public Interest Litigation filed by a Thane based stamp vendor Bharat Nigade, the division bench comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice Ranjana Desai gave two weeks time to the state to reconsider its decision on stopping the sale.

The court stated that the state govenment should find out whether the stamps are bogus or not and should decide accordingly.

The petitioner today told the court that in the wake of fake stamps scam, the state had stopped sale of special adhesive stamps of Rs 500, 1000 and 5000 denominations and such stamps worth Rs 108 crore were lying with district treasuries.
