Haryana declares 2007-08 as Save Electricity Year

Chandigarh, July 11 (UNI) In order to bring down the Amalgamated Transmission and Commercial (AT&C) losses and to make the state self sufficient in power, the Haryana government has declared the year 2007-08 as ''Save Electricity Year''.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, in a letter to all MPs, MLAs, Presidents of Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis drew their attention towards the significance of electricity in all round development of the state.

It was necessary to motivate the general public for ensuring proper reforms in power sector. It was need of the hour to conserve electricity, timely payment of bills and not to indulge in theft of electricity, which was a social evil, he said.

The Chief Minister specifically pointed out that adequate power supply to the consumers was not the only solution for the problem relating to power sector.

The Power Utilities had a loss of 43.5 per cent during the year 2005 - 06 which included 4.7 per cent transmission losses, 29.5 per cent distribution losses and 9.5 per cent revenue collection losses.
