Govt to set up administrative department for consumer affairs
Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 (UNI) Kerala government today decided to create a new administrative department for consumer affairs.
Addressing newspersons here after a meeting of the state Cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said the new department and the Legal Metrology Department would function under the Civil Supplies Minister.
He said the government had decided to give a financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each to the families of those died of chikungunya, dengue fever and leptospirosis. The Civil Supplies Department would also distribute kits containing essential commodities in the affected areas.
Besides launching a state-wide cleaning drive, an expert team would be appointed to study the causes of viral fever in the state.
He said the Thoothumpara estate in Nelliyambathi would be taken back from the Poabson group after the expiry of the lease period and it would be handed over to the Plantation Corporation.
