Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today informed the State Assembly that steps were being taken to bring back Keralite women trapped in visa-rackets in the Gulf countries.
Replying to a Calling Attention by Mr C P Muhammed (Congress), he said it had come to the government's notice that a large number of women from the state had been trapped in visa rackets and working as maid servants and sweepers, instead of nursing jobs as promised by the recruiting agents.
Mr Achuthanandan said the government had brought the issue to the notice of the Embassies concerned and the governments of those countries and sought their assistance to send them back to the state.
The Chief Minister also urged the airline companies to reduce their fares and introduce more budget flights to Kerala during festival season.
Stating that the government was also taking all possible steps to bring back Keralites jailed in various Gulf countries, he said it had already sent two officials to the United Arab Emirates to bring back those who got general amnesty.
