'Govt committed to providing better sports facilities to students

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today reiterated that the Government is committed to providing better sports facilities and infrastructure to students in Government schools to prepare them for the 2010 Commonwealth games.

''The Students should make themselves competent to face challenge of medals in the ensuing games,'' Ms Dikshit said in her address at the 3rd Annual Conference of Heads of Schools.

The Chief Minister announced that swimming would be made compulsory for all Government school students keeping in view ensuing Commonwealth Games.

She also announced that the results for sixth, ninth and eleventh standards would also be made online.

Expressing satisfaction over the improvement of class ten and twelfth results, Ms Dikshit said thehard work of teachers and students had paid off.

She said the Annual Confidential Report of Principals and teachers would also be made available online.

''All libraries would be linked with a network to make them online so that students and teachers make optimum use of books,'' she added.

The Government is making efforts to improve infrastructure in all Government schools, she said ''DSIIDC has been instructed to conduct a survey of the existing structures, which would enable it to prepare an action plan of renovation of school buildings,'' she added.

She announced that VKS would be granted an annual grant of Rs 4 lakh instead of Rs 1.20 lakh.
