Chennai, July 11 (UNI) India can meet its future energy demands estimated to touch up to three lakh Megawati by 2030 only through international research collaborations and sustained focus on clean energy, Former Chief Scientific Advisor to Prime Minister V S Arunanchalam today said.

Addressing the Mediapersons, Dr Arunanchalam said it was high time India looked for clean energy for which there would be large demand from countries like Brazil, Russia, India and China.

''Volatility in fossil fuel prices and increase in carbon emmission are forcing us to look for clean energy. We cannot continue to rely on coal, oil and gas,'' he said.

Earlier, Dr Arunanchalam, also the Founder Chairman of Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), a research and development think tank, signed an MoU with SSN Institutions Founder Shiv Nadar for facilitating scientific research and development in renewable energy.

In his address, Mr Nadar said the nation required more research oriented projects that could contribute to its growth.

''We need more research to be done in India. The partnership with the CSTEP will help SSN Institution to become highly research-oriented.

''Only we seriously lack real talent though there is no dearth of funds,'' he added.

Mr Nadar also announced the appointment of Dr V S Arunanchalam as Chief Scientific Advisor of SSN Research Centre being established at the SSN Campus near here.
