Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) For the first time after being detained by the Australian police in connection with the failed terror attack on Glasgow Airport, Mohammed Haneef, the doctor of Gold Coast Hospital, spoke to his wife in the city over telephone this morning.

Confirming this to UNI, Shoaib, brother of Haneef, who is studying in an engineering college here, said for the first time Haneef was allowed to speak over telephone by the Australian police.

Haneef spoke to his wife for 'one minute'. However, he declined to say what his brother had spoken about.

''My brother was allowed to speak to his wife for the first time.

He spoke to her this morning but I can't reveal what he spoke. The time was too short so he could not speak to our mother,'' he said.

Haneef, who was detained in Australia for his alleged links to the terror plot remains in police custody there who had, however, not pressed any charges against the doctor. He was detained on an alert sounded by the British police.

Haneef is the cousin of Ahmed brothers -- Kafeel and Sabeel, who are the other two Indians accused in the Glasgow Airport attack case.

Kafeel, an aeronautical engineer, is alleged to have driven a blazing jeep into the airport. Sabeel, Kafeel's younger brother was arrested in Liverpool.
