Free education to SC students in polytechs

Chandigarh, July 11 (UNI) The Haryana Technical Education Department will reimburse the fees and provide free computers to the Scheduled Castes (SC) students studying in various Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges of the state.

Parliamentary Secretary (Technical Education) Dillu Ram said the state Government had earmarked a sum of Rs 14.50 crore under the fee reimbursement scheme and as many as 5,000 students would be benefitted during the current financial year.

He said that 20 per cent seats were reserved for SC students in the technical institutes of the state. The government had also decided to provide merit base scholarships of Rs 10,000 per anum to SC students and as many as 1200 students would be covered under this scheme during the current academic session.

The scheme would be helpful in promoting the feeling of the competition among the SC students, he added.

Mr Dillu Ram said that Technical Education department would also provide free computers to the scheduled castes students enrolled in technical institutes of the state.

He said the Government would spend an amount of Rs seven crore for providing free computers to 1300 scheduled castes students during current finincial year.
