Enraged villagers set fire to jeep, stage dharna

Mangalore, July 10 (UNI) Enraged over the alleged killing of three people in a police encounter earlier in the day, the villagers of Menasinahadya today set fire to a jeep and staged a dharna.

According to reports reaching here, the enraged villagers claimed that the police had killed Ramegowda and his wife Kaveri, who were innocent.

Meanwhile, another report said the other two people killed in the encounter-Subramanya and Paramesh-were naxal sympathisers.

Heavy police rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control, police said.
