Drop stir or get dismissal warns Minister

Puducherry, July 11 (UNI) Puducherry Welfare Minister M Kandasamy today warned the striking Anganwadi workers that they would be dismissed if they fail to drop their stir and report for duty by tomorrow.

Adressing a press conference here, Mr Kandasamy said a minor transfer was effected in order to revamp the anganwadis and the workers would in no way be affected because of this. However, they were organising agitations and causing inconvenience to the public by taking out processions and picketing the Legislative Assembly.

Mr Kandasamy said if they fail to report for duty they would be dismissed and new recruitments made through the employment exchange to make all anganwadis operational.

He said a committee comprising of representatives of legislators, 'madarsanghams' and youth associations would be constituted to monitor the functioning of anganwadis and make its service more effective.

Earlier Mr Kandasamy held discussions with Chief Secretary Pradeep Mehra for 15 minutes.

The striking Anganwadi workers picketed the Assembly today and police removed them using force. Their representatives were allowed to meet the Chief Minister to hold discussions.

Meanwhile, Mr Balamohanan, President of the Confederation to the State Government Employees' Association told newspersons that the anganwadi workers would report for duty tomorrow at their earlier places and would not go to the transferred centres.

He said this was as per the talks held with the Chief Minister today and talks would continue tomorrow.
