Dr Ponnavaikko assumes office as BU Vice-Chancellor

Tiruchirapalli, July 11 (UNI) Dr Murugesan Ponnavaikko assumed office as the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University (BU) at a simple function held at the varsity campus here today.

Prior to the present assignment, Dr Ponnavaikko was the Director in the Directorate of Research, Virtual Education and International Initiatives, SRM University, Kattankulathur.

Specialized in Operation Research, Dr Ponnavaikko has contributed original methods for Distribution System Optimisation.

A pioneer in the country to promote energy conservation techniques, Dr Ponnavaikko's models were used for improving the Distribution systems of the State Elelctricity Boards through Rural Electrification Corporation, New Delhi.

He has published over 60 technical papers and worked on more than 30 research projects.
