Dnyaneshwar, Tukaram palkhis leave city for Pandharpur

Pune, July 11 (UNI) The Palkhis (chariots) of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram left the city today accompanied by nearly six lakh devotees on their arduous pilgrimage to Pandharpur in Solapur district.

The Palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar will halt for a day at Saswad on the outskirts of Pune to enable people to have 'darshan'.

The annual pilgrimage of the ''warkaris (devotees)'' on foot will culminate on ''Ashadh Ekadashi'' day at Lord Vitthal's temple at Pandharpur.

Police has made elaborate security arrangements since the past two days. Traffic was diverted on several main roads in the city for the smooth flow of the procession.
