Delhi govt considering ESMA to bring truant bluelines on roads

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Faced with a public transport crisis due to a depleted fleet of buses in operation, after many operators kept their vehicles off roads due to the ongoing campaign against bluelines, the Delhi Government plans to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance Act against drivers not running their buses.

Sources in the Delhi transport department said a review meeting of the Transport department, chaired by the Transport Minister considered the imposition of ESMA against Blueline bus drivers not running their buses.

The Capital was yesterday plunged into a public transport crisis after several blueline drivers kept their buses off the roads keeping in view the campaign by the Delhi Police and the state Transport Department to challan 'on-the-spot' any driver contravening rules.

On the first day of the state Government campaign yesterday, 126 Blueline buses were impounded and fines imposed on as many as 604 bus drivers.
