Shillong, Jul 11 (UNI) The CID has arrested a police constable for his alleged involvement in murder of a domestic help at former Meghalaya Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang residence.

Arwil Sangma, an orderly of the former DGP, was arrested on June 9 from Mr Marbaniang's residence for allegedly murdering a 26-year-old maid, Rinehskhem Kharsohnoh on March 17.

''We have enough evidence against the accused to prove his involvement in the murder,'' Investigating Officer T Chacko told UNI here today.

Mr Chacko also informed that the accused had made some startling revelations of the murder.

''We have already drawn a list of more suspects and they too will be arrested soon,'' he said.

Sangma has been remanded to ten days police custody, he added.

Meanwhile, CID officials have interrogated the victim's mother to ascertain the victim's relationship with Sangma.

The high-profile murder had been witnessing huge public protest, forcing the government to order a CBI probe.

A local advocate here even had filed a PIL into the mysterious death of the domestic help stating that ''police had created enough confusion in the mind of the general public and even tried the best to cover up the case as a suicide case.'' Recently, the former police chief and his wife had filed separate affidavit in the Gauhati High Court, admitting that a homicide had taken place within their residential premises but media had blown the issue out of proportion.

However, initially Mr Marbaniang had claimed that it was a case of suicide but the post mortem report confirmed that it was a murder.
