Kolkata, Jul 11 (UNI) Land acquisition is a major hindrance to the flow of investment in Bengal, according to an Investment Climate Survey report prepared by ICC.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Indian Chamber of Commerce President Harsh K.Jha said the report has voted Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee as the best "Chief Minister" of the country followed by Narendra Modi, Vilas Rao Deshmukh and Navin Patnaik.

Around 150 industrial houses in Bengal were chosen as respondents to gauge the investment climate in the state through this study.

The survey revealed that around 60 per cent of the respondents felt that the "land acquisition for industrialisation was a problem for the state".

However, a sizeable proportion of the respondents felt that the state government must not stop its drive to acquire land for new industries in order to maintain growth.

The respondents were requested to provide their views on the effects of the recent turmoil over land acquisition for new industries in West Bengal and the image of the state.

About 33 per cent said the recent turmoil have hampered the industrialisation process and the image of Bengal. However, 52.3 per cent were of the view that the recent incidents in connection with Nandigram and Singur have affected Bengal negatively, but only in short-term.

Mr Jha also said that the state government could work out a suitable rehabilitation package for those who lost their lands.
