Bottlenecks in respect of four PWD Projects removed: Walia
New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Stating that bottlenecks in respect of four major projects, including remodeling of Anand Vihar ISBT, East-West Corridor and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg flyover, have been removed, Delhi PWD and Urban Development Minister A K Walia today said these projects would be completed well before commencement of the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Talking to reporters here, Dr Walia said the DDA Technical Committee had given its approval for the projects relating to remodeling of Anand Vihar ISBT, Road No.56, East-West Corridor and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg Flyover. Apart from this, the Archaeological Survey of India had also given its nod for commissioning of Salimgarh Fort-Velodrome Road which was kept in abeyance due to its objections.
Dr Walia said the new commissioned projects would provide relief to a large number of commuters and vehicle owners and help in saving of fuel with reduction of travel time.
Remodeling of Anand Vihar ISBT, Road No.56, to be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore, would go a long way in overcoming traffic congestion at the Anand Vihar-UP border. East-West Corridor, to be commissioned with an estimated cost of Rs 1000 crore, would provide a direct elevated link between Marginal Bund Road near Geeta Colony to Bhavbhuti Marg near New Delhi Railway Station.
A new Flyover at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 450 crore and including a HCBS corridor, signal-free right turn towards I.T.O. and signal-free movement of traffic at A junction, would provide direct flow of traffic from Tilak Bridge side to Delhi Gate near Khuni Darwaja.
The ASI has given its nod for commissioning of 2.5 km Salimgarh Fort-Velodrome Road which would have cloverleaves to provide smooth flow of traffic up to Geeta Colony flyover. The new road would reduce quantum of traffic on Ring Road near the Raj Ghat.
The projects, cleared by the DDA Technical Committee, would now be referred to the DUAC for its concurrence.
Dr Walia said out of 27 projects related to the Commonwealth Games, clearance in respect of 20 had been received, work on 15 was in progress whereas remaining were awaiting clearance from the DUAC and DDA Committees.
