BJP revealed mean mentality by opposing Pratibha: Arjun

Bhopal, July 11 (UNI) HRD Minister Arjun Singh today alleged that the BJP revealed a ''mean mentality'' by unleashing a campaign against the UPA's lady presidential candidate Pratibha Patil.

The comment was made at a local hotel in the presence of Ms Patil -- who is drumming up support in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, neighbouring Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh -- during a meeting of Congress MPs, MLAs and other parties' public representatives supporting her.

''By opposing Ms Patil, the BJP isolated itself as differences of opinion -- on this issue -- among NDA constituents have come to the fore. The saffron party's double standards have been coming to light from the beginning. There have been several issues on which there was a yawning gap between the BJP's words and deeds,'' Mr Singh said.

He was the sole leader to address the gathering after Ms Patil.

Among those present were Union ministers Suresh Pachouri, Kantilal Bhuria, AICC General Secretary and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, the party's state incharge V Narayanasamy and other bigwigs.
