Battery dealers in Pondy demand reduction in VAT
Puducherry, July 11 (UNI) The Puducherry state battery dealers association has urged the administration to reduce Value-Added Tax(VAT) on batteries sold here from 12.5 per cent to 4 per cent.
Addressing a press confernce here today, Association president D Mani pointed out that the dealers have to pay 3 per cent towards central sale tax also as the commodities were procured from other states by them. If the present 12.5 per cent VAT on batteries continued, it would ultimately raise the tax to 15.5 per cent.
He said the association has appealed to Chief Minister N Rangasamy to reduce the VAT on batteries from 12.5 per cen to 4 per cent so that there would be only 7.5 per cent tax (including 3 per cent CST) here.
