Itanagar, July 11 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government today denied charges of encroachment of reserve forest area levelled out by the Asom government and accused it of forcefully occupying vast stretch of its land.

Addressing a joint press conference here yesterday, government. spokesman Tako Dabi and state Environment and Forest Minister Newlai Tingkhatra described the reports published in some sections of regional media as 'unfortunate', saying ''Arunachal has not encroached even an inch of Asom forest''.

The tripartite committee on boundary issue had recorded in 1979 that Asom had illegally encroached upon the 184 sq km area of Tirap district, where 12 schools had been established, Mr Tingkhatra, said adding, ''We are maintaining status quo while they are violating.'' ''Arunachal wants a peaceful solution to the imbroglio as it cannot match with Asom in police force or forest protection force,'' he said.

Terming as ''Brahmaputra blunder'', the transfer of all plain areas of Arunachal without consulting its people, as per 1951 Bordoloi Commission report, to Asom and leaving only the hills for them, Mr Dabi informed that Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu would take up the matter with his Asom counterpart for finding an amicable solution to resolve the matter.

Reiterating the state government stand that the status quo should be maintained in delimitation process as there was no increase of assembly seats, Mr Dabi said the Delimitation Commission chairman had been urged to consider the numerous tribal groups and ethnicity to hour the plea.
