37 houses damaged due to swolen Markandeya river in Belgaum
Belgaum, July 11 (UNI) Due to heavy flow from catchment areas in Southern Maharashtra, the Markandeya river caused swelled, damaging 37 houses in Kundaragi village in this district today.
Official sources said due to increased flow in the river and Ballary canal, 67 people were shifted to Ankalgi relief centre.
People living along the banks of the river were vacating their villages. They were shifted to safer places.
Belgaum had received 158 mm rains since July one. Rains continued in Belgaum district and Southern Maharashtra, resulting in 22 bridges and roads being breached due to overflowing rivulets and canals.
1.97 lakh cusecs of water was being released from Rajapur barrage in Maharashtra. This included 39,723 cusecs from Koina and 44975 cusecs from Panchaganga, both across river Krishna.
