3-day international conference to be held at BU

Tiruchirapalli, July 11: A three-day International Conference on Technology, Innovation and the Millennium Development Goals in India, organised by the Bharathidasan University (BU) in collaboration with a research academic group Institute National de la Recherche Agronomique, France and a Non Governmental Organisation, Scope, will begin here tomorrow.

According to a press release here yesterday, the international conference would be the first of its kind in India, as it aims to bring academics, NGOs, policy makers, firms and funding agencies to discuss strategies in a spirit of cooperation and come up with a set of ideas to pursue further.

The first two days of the Conference would be devoted to a discussion of ideas for strategies for development, in the context of different models of society and its relationship to technology, the release said.

The third day would involve a trip to the site of the Franco-Indian Reconstruction Project at the Tsunami-ravaged Kameshwaram village in Nagapattinam district, it said.

After the Tsunami, the village boasts of the maximum number of eco-sanitary toilets in any village in India.

Experts from Universities from all over India and France and other countries would participate in the conference, the release said.
