12 Hurriyat activists taken into preventive custody in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 11 (UNI) About a dozen activists of Hurriyat Conference (Omar) were today taken into preventive custody in the down town city this afternoon.

The Hurriyat Conference (HC) activists were busy making preparation for tomorrow's function outside the Srinagar central jail here when a police party arrested 12 activists, including Ghulam Qadir Baigh and Mushtaq Ahmad, Shahidul Islam, secretary to chairman Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said.

He said Mirwaiz Omar is scheduled to lay foundation stone of ''Minar-e-Shuda'' in memory of 22 Kashmiris who were killed by Dogra police outside jail in 1931.

We will go ahead with the programme, Advocate Islam said.

He criticised the police action and alleged that political activities are being curbed by the state government.
