118 illegal migrants deported from Capital Complex

Itanagar, July 11 (UNI) As many as 118 people have been deported for living in the Capital Complex without inner-line permits (ILPs) thereby violating the Bengal Frontier Regulation Act 1873.

A total of 175 people had been rounded up during a joint drive by executive magistrates of Itanagar, Naharlagun and Banderdewa.

The drive was conducted in pursuance of the July 3 executive order promulgated by Papum Pare district magistrate to detect illegal migrants, particularly Bangladeshi citizens, an official sources said adding that the violators, who had entered the Capital Complex in search of manual work were deported by the police.

Papum Pare district Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bidul Tayeng and Superintendent of Police (SP) Hibu Tamang supervised the joint operation, which would continue for few days.

Meanwhile, the DC held a meeting with All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) headed by its President Kanu Bagang today and urged the union to strictly follow constitutional and peaceful means for its 'Operation clean drive'.

While appreciating the union's concern about the influx of Bangladeshis, the DC clarified that issue of ILP in the past had greatly contributed to the present problem, thus the issue procedure has been streamlined.

As the boundary was porous, certain illegal entry points like rivers and forest areas near Banderdewa check gate have been brought under police vigilance, while the matter of fake ILPs prepared in neighbouring Asom had been taken with the district administration concerned, he told the union.

The DC, in another meeting with the representatives of traders' bodies of Itanagar, Naharlagun and Nirjuli urged the business community not to engage suspected-Bangladeshis in their trading activities. Such illegal migrants were mostly engaged in selling vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish in the towns of the Capital Complex.

It has been pointed that high rate of wage paid to labourers from outside the state was responsible for influx of suspected Bangladeshis.

In yet another meeting the DC asked All Arunachal Pradesh Workers' Union president not to issue identity card before verifying the nationality and ILP of their members, sources added.
