Woman stitches genitals as penitence for straying

Palanpur, July 10 (UNI) There are certain real life stories which come across as unbelievably true and more of a fiction than any bit of reality.

One such story has been picked up from a part of Alpa's life, which took a bizarre turn due to infidelity and hatred for men.

Alpa (32), a charming woman, raised in a happy middle-class family was sexually abused and cheated by men time and again that she stitched her genitals as a penitence for going astray.

The tragedy of her life was let loose at the mercy of the public early last week.

A bus going from Himatnagar to Mehsana had only a few passengers on board. As it stopped on the outskirts of Mehsana town everyone alighted but one. It was Alpa, who was spotted lying unconcious on the seat by the bus conductor.

Shocked and puzzled, the conductor asked the driver to take the bus to the nearest police station.

The police found a note from her purse which read: '' I am fed up of the selfish men and of myself. I have consumed poison. I do not want to blame anyone for my death''.

The police then rushed Alpa to the Civil Hospital at Mehsana. Jayshriben Patel, the doctor attending her suspected rape and decided to conduct necessary tests. To her surprise, Alpa's genitals were stitched with a silver thread with no space for even urine to pass out.

As the doctor tried to remove the stitches, Alpa cried out: ''No please do not open for God's sake. It gives me no pain.'' Confused and perturbed over her behaviour, the doctor shifted her to Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Alpa has now recovered and will be discharged anytime soon.

Investigations into the case led head constable Poonaji of Kherwa outpost to the conclusion that ''Alpa had stitched her private parts some three months back as penitence for going astray, which had spoiled her life both socially and physically.

She was completely broken''.

However, life was not always unkind to her.

Charming Alpa was the only daughter of businessman Bharatbhai Modi of Purshotam Nagar locality of Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district and her childhood days were laden with her father's and brother's affection.

She studied till 10th standard and was married to one Jayeshkumar Natwarlal Modi. Theirs was a happy family and she gave birth to a baby girl and a baby boy.

But destiny had somthing else in store for her.

Alpa fell for a married man named Kanuji Parmar in her neighbourhood. One day she eloped with Parmar and spent an year away from her husband. It was a nightmarish experience for her. ''I have never experienced such humiliation,'' she cried on recollecting the memories of those days.

Later, she came in contact with another man in Deesa, who took her to Himatnagar from where she went to her husband Natwarlal in Modasa.

Natwarlal seemed willing to accept her once again but she soon realised that there was something else on his mind.

He made her sign an affidavit in the name of accepting her as his wife. The document, however, read that she was waiving all her rights as a wife on her own free will.

No sooner did Alpa sign the documents in the hope of bringing her life back on track, Natwarlal drove her out of his house and onto the streets.
