Villagers set ablaze former army personnel

Gorakhpur, UP, July 10 (UNI) A former armyman was set ablaze in Chauri Chaura area of the district last night, police said today.

Shyamlal Maurya (48) had a heated argument with a tea shop owner, Ram Govind (30), near Belwa Khurd village.

The dispute turned violent and Maurya shot at Govind by his service rifle. He later succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital.

Irked over the incident, agitated villagers thrashed the former army personnel and set him ablaze after dousing him with kerosene.

The body had been sent for a post-mortem and investigations were underway, the police said added.
