TN Govt orders hotels to ensure boiled water for customers
Chennai, Jul 10 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today ordered hotels in the state to make available boiled water for customers to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases.
Talking to newspersons here, after a meeting with officials on the precautionary measures to be taken before the onset of monsoon, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin warned stern action against hotels, which did not supply boiled water to the customers.
Allaying fears about outbreak of cholera, he said today's meeting was convened only to discuss the strategy to be adopted to tackle the spread of water-borne diseases during the pre-monsoon period in the state.
As consumption of contaminated water is the main reason for diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases, Mr Stalin said, the meeting attended by Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran and Chennai Corporation Mayor Ma Subramaniam decided to educate the public and create awareness on the precautionary steps to be taken.
He said cases diarrhoea of were reported from north Chennai and neighbouring districts of Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram, but there was no cause of worry about outbreak of Cholera.
In all, about 320 people were admitted to the Communicable Diseases hospital in Tondairpet with complaints of diarrhoea and the number of cases admitted to the hospital was 50 per cent less compared to last year.
In today's meeting, it was decided to monitor cleanliness and hygienic conditions in meat shops, slaughter houses and prevent stagnation of rain water during the monsoon season, he added.
