Suspected Maoists gun down CPI(M) Branch committee secretary

Midnapur, July 10 (UNI) Three suspected Maoists gunned down a branch committee secretary of the CPI (M) this evening in Kantapahari village under Lalgarh police station, District Magistrate West Midnapur B P Barat said here today.

While on his way home, Rohit Roy was attacked by the three suspected Maoists, who pumped four bullets into his chest and head from AK-47 assault rifles.

Roy died on the spot.

Protest meetings and processions against the killing would be organised throughout the Jhargram sub-division and part of Sadar sub-division tomorrow, District CPI(M) secretary Dipak Sarkar said.

The Superintendent of Police, West Midnapur R Rajshekaran said combing operations had been launched.

No arrest had been made yet.
