Spells of rain or thundershowers to hit Mumbai

Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) After a week of incessant and intermittent rains, parts of the city and its suburbs finally saw a bright sunny day with a slight increase in the humidity.

Meanwhile, the Met department has forecast spells of rain or thundershowers, accompanied by strong gusty winds, to occur in some parts of the city and its adjoining suburbs.

The total rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours in the metropolis was 3.6 mm at Colaba in south Mumbai and 1.4 mm at Santacruz in north Mumbai.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to hit at few isolated places in the districts of Thane, Raigad and Madhya Maharashtra during the next 48 hours, whereas moderate to rather heavy rainfall is likely to occur at many places over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada and most places over the Konkan region.

Monsoon is strong over West Central Arabian Sea, moderate to strong over North East, East Central and South West Arabian Sea and moderate over South East Arabian Sea.

Yesterday's trough of low pressure on the sea level chart, extending from the coasts of South Gujarat to Kerala, persists.

The Met department has issued a warning to the fishermen on the Maharashtra coast advising them not to venture out into the high seas for the next 24 hours. As per the alert, winds of 45-50 kmph will be south-westerly to westerly, temporarily reaching 60 kmph in gusts/squall, making the south-westerly waves rough.
