Shekhawat's candidature to prove BJP's relevance, claims Cong
Jaipur, July 10 (UNI) The candidature of NDA-backed Independent Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for Presidency was made just to establish the ''political relevance'' of the BJP, Congress spokesman for presidential elections Mohan Prakash said today.
Mr Prakash, in an informal chat with newspersons, said the UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil would get support from across party lines and the allegations raised against her were baseless.
Coming down heavily on senior BJP leader L K Advani for the language used in his letter addressed to the legislatures, he said the use of the words like ''tainted' against the ''president in-waiting'' (Pratibha Patil) and terming the Prime Minister ''handpicked'' were ''unparliamentary and undemocratic''.
He said the letter is a reflection of Mr Advani's scant regard for democratic properity and shows him in poor light.
