Rains cause Rs 9.14 crore loss in Kangra
Shimla, July 10 (UNI) Heavy monsoon rains in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh have caused an estimated loss of Rs 9.14 crore so far, Kangra Additional Deputy Commissioner KD Lakhanpal today said.
''The losses and damages in the district due to rains are likely to rise further since reports from various parts of the state are still pouring in,'' he told UNI here.
Mr Lakhanpal said, of the Rs 9.14 crore loss estimated in the district so far, a sum of Rs 3.95 crore was due to damage to the roads and bridges, Rs 4.36 crore on irrigation and drinking water supply schemes and Rs 39.36 lakh on losses to the agricultural land.
Revenue officers were also trying to assess losses to houses and business establishments in the district, he said.
He said repair of the roads and bridges damaged due to rains in the district was being carried out on a war footing and vehicular traffic on the Manji Bridge had been restored.
However, drinking water supply schemes in Dharamshala and Nagrota Bhagwan was yet to be restored, affecting drinking supply in these two places, the ADC said.
Reports of losses to roads, bridges and agricultural land due to heavy rains have also poured in from Mandi, Shimla and Kinnuar districts of the state.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures rose by one to three degrees across the state after light showers at a few places during the last 24 hrs, the met office said.
The minimum temperature at Shimla rose by almost two degrees to 16.6 degrees in comparison to yesterday's low of 14.8 degrees, while it rose to 21.1 degree at Sundernagar, 17.2 at Bhuntar.
