Lawyers strike work in Kashmir
Srinagar, July 10 (UNI) Lawyers in Kashmir today struck work in protest against the use of force by police during a condolence meeting of a student in the downtown city yesterday.
Muntazir Ahmed (16), a class X student and a resident of Naid Kadal in downtown city, was killed during violent clashes between protestors and police near historic Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta on Friday against the alleged spurt in the human rights violations in the Kashmir valley.
The condolence meeting yesterday again witnessed clashes between the mourners and police who used force to quell the protests.
The strike affected the work in the courts.
The recording of statements of eyewitnesses in the killing of carpenter Abdur Rehman Padder of Kokernag in an alleged fake encounter was also adjourned for the second day today.
The Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Yaqoob Mir will now hear the case on July 21.
