Haryana ropes in Pvt Health Providers for BPL families

Chandigarh, July 10 (UNI) The Haryana Health Department has empaneled 122 accredited Private Health Providers (PHPs) so as to provide primary as well as specialist health services to families living below poverty line (BPL) under an innovative scheme known as 'Vikalp'.

Stating this here today, Health Minister Kartar Devi said about 1.46 lakh BPL families had so far been registered under the scheme.

She said the scheme was being implemented in both urban and rural areas of the State.

Under the scheme, each PHP was being allotted up to 1500 BPL families for provision of various health services like reproductive and child health, trauma and referral services.

Ms Kartar Devi said the Government had constituted a panel of private specialists where specialist services were not available in Government health institutions.

These specialists were paid a prescribed honorarium for providing specialist services and follow up to the families.

Initially 'Vikalp' was introduced as a pilot project in four districts of Gurgaon, Rohtak, Ambala and Hisar during the year 2005-06, but now its scope had been expanded to cover the entire state.
