Govt to set up lab for Ayurvedic medicines: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, July 10 (UNI) Kerala Health Minister P K Sreemathy today told the Assembly that the government was taking steps to establish a laboratory for testing the quality of Ayurveda medicines produced in the state.

In a written reply to the Congress Deputy Leader in the Assembly G Karthikeyan, and others, the Minister said at present, there were no special laboratory facilities available in the state for testing the quality of Ayurvedic medicines.

"Drug inspectors collect samples of medicines and the quality test are conducted at the drug testing laboratories," Ms Sreemathy added.

All total there were 1,255 Ayurvedic medicine production units functioning in the state.

The government is considering to constitute a Directorate for the Homeo Medical Education Department, Ms Sreemathy said.

As part of promoting Homeo treatment method all across the state, the government would also establish Homeo Dispensaries in all villages, where the government services are not available, the minister added.
