Govt to scale up production of Arjun tank: Minister
Mysore, July 10 (UNI) Union Minister of state for Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh today said the production of M B T Arjun would be increased and the task would be entrusted to public sector companies in the country.
Talking to newspersons at the BEML campus here, he said the Defence Ministry was planning to induct 124 MBT Arjun tanks into the Indian Army and the Ministry has considering the BEML for the project.
Mr Singh said the Defence Ministry had decided to purchase total defence requirements from public sector companies in the country.
The government would consider granting 'Navaratna' status to the BEML.
He said the BEML had raised Rs 526 crore from the capital market and the same would be invested in the development of the company this year.
