Goa police to book foreign drug mafias under NSA

Panaji, July 10 (UNI) Perturbed over reports of increasing drug trafficking, involving foreigners, in State Home Minister Ravi S Naik today directed the police to detain those envolved under the National Security Act (NSA).

Interacting with mediapersons after holding a meeting of the top police brass here, Mr Naik also advised the policemen to launch a special drive against the drug traffickers to check the menace, besides strengthening the Anti-Narcotics Cell.

He said the government would acquire land at Kadamba Plateau in Old Goa to build a detention camp for all the foreigners, who failed to go back before expiry of their visas or those who entered the state without valid documents.

The Minister cited an example of rejection of the plea of seven foreigners, who had applied for renewal of their visas recently.

He said even the police personnel would be put under scanner so that those having nexus with the criminals would not be spared.

The Minister, also, urged the house owners in the state to provide the respective police stations with information about tenants, mandatory under the law, so that it could prevent sheltering of suspected criminals and terrorists.

Mr Naik reviewed the arrangements for strengthening the traffic system in the state.

Chief Secretary J P Singh, Director General of Police B S Brar, IGP Randhawa, DIG Ujjwal Mishra, senior Superintendents of Police, besides several other police officers, and secretary (Vigilence) Diwan Chand, also attended the meeting.
