Delimitation Commission report by September : Kuldip Singh
Patna, July 10 (UNI) The preparation of new geographical profile and boundaries of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in the country is 'almost final' and is likely to be notified within the next 45 days, Delimitation Commission Chairman Kuldip Singh said here.
Referring to the massive all India exercise in the wake of manifold increase in the number of population and radical change in other characters of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in the country during the past two decades, Mr Singh said following year- long painstaking work the Commission had now come to the final stages and hoped to issue the necessary notification within the next one and a half months.
Speaking to mediapersons here last night after chairing a day long stormy session with the members of Parliament from Bihar and the state MLAs and MLCs, Mr Singh, however, made it clear that in redefining the boundaries of both Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies the decision of the Commission would be 'final' as it 'does not require to submit its report to anyone else as per the law'.
When his attention was drawn towards numerous complaints and objections lodged in the Commission by the MPs, MLAs and others in Bihar and elsewhere in the country questioning the rationale behind the huge exercise besides complicating the boundary issue, Mr Singh assured that each complaint and objection was being studied thoroughly and necessary steps would be taken as per the rule.
''We will definitely look into each of them for proper assessment, and in case any mistake on our part is detected, the Commission will definitely undertake corrective measures before issuing the final order'', Mr Singh pointed out.
Regarding his observations about Bihar and the necessity to delimit its 243 assembly and 40 Parliamentary constituencies, Mr Singh refused to make any comment and suggested all concerned people to wait till the presentation of the final report.
Among others Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy, Bihar Election Commissioner J K Dutta and State Chief Electoral Officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh were present during the deliberations.
