35 villages of Kheda district in grip of flood
Nadiad, Gujarat, July 10 (UNI) One person was swept away today in the Vartak river in Kheda district where 35 villages are in the grip of floods due to heavy rains.
District collector of Kheda R R Varsani said 5,487 people from these 35 villages had been shifted to safer places.
Mr Varsani told UNI that a vehicle, carrying five persons, fell into the Vartak river at Sansoli village today. Though Four persons were rescued, one of them was swept away in the currents and is yet to be traced.
The collector informed that 45 persons who were marooned in the floods in Kanij village in the district were today rescued.
Meanwhile, the Mor river near Katlal, which was flooded yesterday, saw water level receding appreciably today, Mr Varsani said. The water level in Jarmar river too has come down.
Kheda district has received 672 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, taking the season's total to 3,793 mm so far.
In the neighbouring Anand district, 945 people were shifted to safer places from Golana and Hyderpura villages in Khambhat taluka following excess inflow of water into the Sabarmati river since yesterday. Rinja village in this district is cut off, according to reports reaching here.
